After a nail biting 2 hours, ntbackup finished, trunced the TLs and returned over 50GB of space to the TL volume.
We got down to under 2GB for a while and it looked like the volume would fill up and take out the IS. With IMAP stopped and the disable MAPI registry entry http://support.microsoft.com/?id=288894 running on the server and a big note on the front door about not touching email, everyone was still in and frantically sending emails.
Doh.
"I've just got this urgent email that I have to send". Hmm. With the SMTP connector disabled, the service stopped, the smarthost / relay disabled and its SMTP stopped, it weren't goin' nowhere.
After playing catch up for 700MB, the system is now stable once more. I've had a trying morning and ok so it wasn't the toughest thing in the world to do but there aren't thousands of people who could have done it. Will I get thanked? Nah. Will I get bawled out for Exchange going tits? You betcha.
Thankless job this IT, innit?
Well apart from the thanks I give for the "second brain" (his words) or "moral support" (my words). You know who you are.
