Scenario 1
Your IT / MIS Department report that their air con units are not up to spec. They ask for them to be upgraded.
Do you:
a) Replace the units
b) Ignore the request
Scenario 2
The overheating of the server room (see above) causes one of your tape libraries to fail. It is a nice, shiny LTO Ultrium 3 autoloader, not too old. A power cycle of the box traps the tape in the drive. £60 tape, £4,000 library.
Do you:
a) Get the unit swapped out under warranty.
b) Open the unit, invalidate the warranty and rescue the tape?
Scenario 3
The SQL Server box you have access to allows 2 simultaneous connections via RDP. This needs to be accessed by 4 companies (each of more than one person) plus the internal team.
Do you:
a) Use both connections and disconnect leaving yourself logged in.
b) Log off when you have finished using them.
Scenario 4
You are travelling to a remote site to do some work.
Do you:
a) Check to see if the site will be open.
b) Just turn up and hope for the best.
Scenario 5
You get asked to Blog about something contentious.
Do you:
a) Invent hypothetical situations that simply would not happen in the real world to vent yourself from what really happened.
b) Post what really happened.
c) Ignore the chap who made the suggestion and ask him to get back to his champagne.
Scenario 6
Your Manager is at a conference for 2 days and is listed as "Uncontactable" and has asked that you do not contact him.
Do you (choose two answers):
a) Call him in an emergency only.
b) Call him for things you cannot resolve only.
c) Call him 22 times on the first day for things like how to install a printer, how to restart a server and other minor things you could work out yourself.
d) Call him 8 times before 9.30am on the second day with informationals.
Scenario 7
You need to do 30 hours of something massively tedious. Really, REALLY tedious. It is SO tedious that your mind is already numbed before you start.
Do you:
a) Knock it out anyway because someone needs to do it.
b) Ask someone else to do it for you.
c) Sit about, write a blog entry and hope someone in authority will delegate the task to someone else.
I admit that at least one of the above actually happened.
