Aha, the great Christmas party. Theme: Super Heroes.
So there I was, dressed as Darth Vader, drinking beer during the course of the evening. All was fine and the party was a little on the slow side. One of the Marketing team persuaded me to have a go on the Vodka luge, an ice sculpture where you pour Vodka down it into the open mouth of a waiting punter.
In hindsight, this was probably an error.
In hindsight, being on the luge every other go was a real error.
In hindsight, not sipping was a big error.
In hindsight, drinking lots of beers beforehand was a major error.
Several members of staff have commented that I managed "about a whole bottle" of Smirnoff. It certainly feels that way in my head today.
At about midnight I was still dressed up and at the hotel. At about 1.30am I was delivered home by a friend to whom I have already apologised (after drinks I should probably keep my mouth shut). The intervening 90 minutes are a total blank, but I had managed to get changed back into my normal clothes, get my bag from the cloakroom, find my mobile phone and my mini computer. Perhaps some things are best left not known.
This morning I arrived as usual to the office at 8.20, less than 7 hours after getting home. The bacon and egg sandwich, 2 cups of coffee, lots of water and a can of coke have helped matters greatly - I now just feel grim. My meeting with a group of building contractors went ahead but was good.
To coin a phrase, I'm never drinking again. But I was not the only one - someone managed to chat to Huey outside the Hotel all over her shoes. Again having been on the luge and only managing to get outside the hotel by being carried out :-) But I don't think it would be a good idea to spread rumour as someone may retaliate with stories about me. That will be about as pretty as I look now.
