Inspired by his previous post about the amount of walking required through airport lounges, little Jimmy has organised himself a car.
It is powered by nitro methane, does 40mph and is just the right size for little Jimmy. Probably the right size for the real Jimmy too.

Battleship Baggy
More hours underneath my Bagheera with the resourceful Andy means that late on January 1st, Battleship Baggy left its temporary sojourn bound for pastures new.
Once the weather warms up, there will be regular sailings.

Thieving scum
My great neighbour Paul has had his car off the road for about 6 months now and recently I've been loaning him my Peugeot as I tend to use the bike barring when I'm with Jake.
Because of offering him this, he offered to do some work on the car - first job was the failed head gasket. He's done that, taken photos, flushed everything and so on. I've given him transport, he's given me transport. She still slightly overheats, but nothing major.
Last night he took the Peugeot down to the Internet cafe in the next town. Now there's a big hole where the passenger window was yesterday. They took nothing as there was nothing of value in the car. They left the child seat, the loose change in the pot (under one pound) but they have just cost Paul about £100.
80,000 jail places for 60.8 million Brits. Or places for 0.13% of the population.
Over 2.2 million places (source: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/prisons.htm) for 301.1 million Yanks. Or 0.73% of the population.
So per head the US has 5.6 times the number of prison cells as us. Plus the 3 strike rule.
Harumph - bring back hard labour, chaingangs and National Service. Not central heating, TVs everywhere and sentencing reduced due minimise overcrowding. Here's a thought - get prisoners building new prisons then at least they have a vocation afterwards.

Clang clang clang went the trolley
Well, not entirely but at stupid o'clock on Friday morning in the darkened drizzle in the midst of the roadworks, the long suffering Peugeot ground to a halt for no apparent reason. A keep left sign on a metal frame had been knocked down during the night and the frame itself being black was sitting there waiting for me.
Upshot? CV joint, CV gaiter, inner shaft and a few other minor bits of the steering. OK, so maybe "minor" isn't the right term since steering is quite important. Left the car with the amazing Mr Pete who diagnosed the bad news about 5pm which unfortunately meant the car was still broken that evening when I was due to drive to the country.
Evening consisted of train and tube to pick up small fry and discuss car with Mr Pete. Then train and tube back past my office some 2 hours after I'd left, over to Paddington onto train via McDonalds and over 2 hours from there to Evesham then a 30 minute drive courtesy of my oldest friend.

Pointless? Not any more
Yes folks, its rant time.
So there I was, coming home in the car last night up the motorway. I took my time, I'd been driving for about three and a half hours in total dropping the small one off when I got to my junction. Cones in the hard shoulder surrounding a squad car and a transit van. Signs saying keep right and a sign saying road closed. Oh dear I thought, have to go to the next exit and come back. The two cars in front of me went up the sliproad so I assumed it was just the hard shoulder that was closed, after all we couldn't all be mistaken could we?
Part way up the sliproad I was greeted by Mr Plod. After a great deal of patronising about how I could have killed him and end up going to prison, I received 3 points and a fine. "Its only a minor endorsement and will not affect your insurance" he responded when I told him it will double my insurance premiums for the car and bike for at least the next two years. Must be something they get told at FTS as that's what the guy told me 6 years ago when I last got pulled. Yeah ok mate, but that's simply not the case.
Given that three of us got done in a row and there was a Mercedes waiting already and the Plod said he'd already done a dozen or so drivers in the previous 90 minutes, either he wasn't making things clear at the bottom of the sliproad or they were low on the doughnut kitty.
But for £800 or so, it was a hugely enjoyable piece of patronising while I stood on the sliproad shivering. I just wish I had pointed out that he wanted me to get out of the car and stand on the same part of the road he had just nicked me. Surely he was therefore endangering a member of the public?
