MCS. Do you want fries with that?

Further to the marvellous blog entry by Mr Arnold http://markarnold.blogspot.com/2007/06/microsoft-missing-person-alert.html about the curious case of the MCS in the technical forums, here is a transcript of part of the thread:

Once you've set up the RSG and you go into NTBACKUP and select the Information Store as your restore target, how do you determine whether the restore is going to be applied against your live IS or against the RSG?
I'm reluctant to pull the trigger on a particular restore until I know.

sorry, what is RSG?

It's a Recovery Storage Group. I figured out that by default a production store won't be the target of the restore unless you've marked it in Properties to be ready for a restore to land. By default restores are applied to available Recovery Storage Groups.

Thanks. You ask me what an RSG is, and now you're basically telling me that it's possible to read about them on TechNet.
Congrats on your certification.

nobody will tell you more about RSG than MS itself! :)

Clearly it depends on who you ask. If you ask Victor K at Microsoft you won't get any insight on the RSG.
Perhaps you were too busy getting all those Cisco certifications to pay attention to your in-house products. After all, Exchange is such a niche product and so few people use it you might as well spend all your non billable time on those shiny Cisco boxes.
Still, at least we all have your name so that we can turn you away at the door the next time we engage the excellent services of MCS.

To Mark:
It's your choice, - what you want to do, but the problem is that your behavior is unacceptible. You should be more polite. Think about it.
Good luck to you!

Things descended from there on in and now GENEnG no longer exists and neither does the thread. Shame really. It would appear that he also posts using another name InfraArch - http://www.tek-tips.com/userinfo.cfm?member=InfrArch

If anyone knows him, would they care to send him a book on Exchange? Surely someone must have one?

Its such a shame that when a person tries to help another person with a problem and takes time off to help that person, his time and effort are truly not appreciated. Mark Arnold has taken time to help, all I can say is what a silly person he is to ignore his sound advice...
